Cheez-It® Hot & Spicy Snack Crackers

2026-07-14T23:56:01.000+00:00 2026-07-15T00:15:52.000+00:00 I've been a huge fan of Cheez-It Hot & Spicy for a very long time, and when I happened to find my way to the product site and reviews last week, I was surprised to see so many bad reviews. But I spent some time reading, and after looking at the photos of the boxes, it was clear that the packaging had changed recently, so I bought a brand new box with the new packaging to see for myself if these reviewers were just nuts, because Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its were like eating crackers on crackers but without the "-ers". In short, they were the world's most phenomenal snacks. The new box with the new design with the red and black background and the black labelled red bottle of unnamed hot sauce just arrived at my front door, so I tore into it and grabbed a fistful or two while I still have half a box of the old green background ones with the white labelled red bottle of unnamed, or the formerly cross-licensed, T-branded hot sauce bottle on it so I could compare them directly, and I'm sad to report that the recipe is indeed wrecked in its current iteration. Don't get me wrong - these are definitely still Cheez-Its, so you do still get the standard, characteristic cheesy goodness that we've all grown to love for decades - we're not talking a total loss here. It's still a good snack, and I'd still rate it a 4 stars if they were just Original Cheez-Its, but these are not - these are Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its, so I'm looking for and expecting hot and spicy Cheez-Its when I shovel them into my face, and it's just not there. These are more like Mild & Pedestrian Cheez-Its by direct comparison. They're more like Cheez-Not-Its, and I hate saying that because I love nearly all Cheez-Its, and I really, REALLY, REEEEEEAAALLLLYYY loved Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its! Now they're only marginally better than normal Original Cheez-Its at best. They're not the crackers on crackers without the "-ers" snacks that they've always been since their inception. I'm not saying they're required to go back and do another branding cross-licensing deal with "the big T" again, because the last box of the green background with generic, white labelled, red bottled nameless hot sauce version of Hot & Spicy Cheez-Its were still the bees knees, the cat's meow, and the whatever else's whatever that the original licensed and cross-branded ones were. I'm just saying they desperately need to find a way to get back to that kind of recipe, with those kind of ingredients, in that class of quality, in that quantity again, because these are going to cost the brand a lot of customers, unfortunately, and it's so unnecessary. These were by far and away miles better than all the other flavors, even though there are a handful of other incredible flavors out there. But these will not be flying off the shelves anywhere because they don't bring to the table what the flavor's consumers were buying and sharing and eating them for. These have a tiny hint of a similar flavor, but are missing at least 80-90% of it, and there is no kick to them at all, as noted by all the other reviewers who've noticed that it's a different package in different colors but with a VERY different recipe, and probably different suppliers and the whole shebang. These are definitely not the same at all, and something akin to the old recipe needs to come back ASAP. I hope y'all over at Cheez-Its didn't order ten trillion freight train cars full of this flavoring, because that's going to hurt. On the bright side, though, without the branding cross-licensing deal, you shouldn't be locked into a contract to keep making and cramming these in warehouses and on store shelves to expire so they can hurry up and be thrown in the trash where they belong, so I'm hoping we're only months away from Cheez-It correcting this terrible mistake and getting back to what they've always been historically amazing at - making the best snacks in the world and trouncing all their competitors. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAASE bring back the real Hot & Spicy recipe/flavor!!!!!!! WE ALL BEG YOU!!!!! I'm not even begging for the branded version - just the non-licensed, unnamed, generic flavoring you were using with the green backgrounded boxes shortly after the brand licensing expired on the old flavoring. It is worth the extra cost. JUST DO IT AND LET ME GIVE YOU MY MONEY AGAIN!!!! I just can't with this flavoring - it's not Hot & Spicy anymore. Not even remotely. All that flavor and zing and spice and heat is gone! We're sad. Help us, Cheez-It wan Kenobi.... You're our only hope! Had to verify after reading reviews. Not good. :(
